Synaesthesia

 Synaesthesia

A perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory cognitive pathway leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway.

We have all experienced from time to time how music can lift our spirits, help us to concentrate and even on occasions dampen our mood, but how does music alter the way that we express these changes.

Synaesthesia represents a collection of paintings studying the correlation between music and painting, this is a project that has been very close to my heart for over 15 years and I'm thrilled to finally share it with you.

Each painting has been created whilst listening to a body of music from a chosen recording artist, the artwork is then titled using a lyric from a song by that artist, it is this music that has influenced my choice of colour, composition and expression of each painting.
